Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture.
With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

So the way I was taught by my grandfather about why the rocks keep reappearing every year is due to the fact that the land on the prairies is constantly settling since it was created by the glaciers of the last ice age and the rocks settle at a slower rate than the surrounding land and that's why we used to have to keep rock picking (by hand and stone boat) the same fields every year.......don't know for sure, just saying, LOL.

I know or at least I think your doing all the camera work and it's fantastic all the different angles and such. Your interaction with your kids is precious. Hey I also started watching the farmers wife from Canada Riding in Cabs with Farmers or something like that she's just getting started with this and is fun to watch not many viewers yet. You ought to evite her down to meet your wife to get the ladies view here. I think that would be a fun video. And lastly I find myself watching you and several others rather than the regular TV.

I realize this will never be seen but, here in western NC which used to be tobacco country, we had an old man who would plow with an old 9n ford. He would hide a mason jar somewhere at the end of his field, after each row he'd stop and "act" like he was taking a leak, but we all knew he was taking a pull off that mason jar ;-) Love your channel sir :-)

We had bought some ground next to an old rock quarry, we did not have a machine. Dad had us kids, 2 loads on the back of a 3 point hauler every day. He could tell when we had a load because the tractor would be doing a wheelie. Good times, Hahahaha

Here's how vegetation and worms can cover concrete runways over time. In about 46 years since last use the plants are changing from mosses to grasses and weeds and that process will accelerate as birds and mice coming for seeds will drop fertiliser to feed the plants. www.remotelondon.com/wisley-airfield-an-abandoned-runway-in-surrey/ I've been watching a single alder tree and rough spiky grass growing on the solid shale of a railway embankment for about 65 years now. It was s stunted tree in a patch about 3 feet across as teh shale has little nutrient value but now the tree is about 20 feet and the patch about ten feet across and now has some soft grass and flowering weeds. I think it would take 1000 years for the patch to spread all over the level top of the banking but it may never colonise the 45 degree sloping sides.

Those big rocks were left there by The Flood 4,350 years ago. All the nice topsoil that almost covers them is what worms and plants have made since then. Worms and roots make topsoil at the rate of one inch per five years but our post-Flood weather blows and washes most of that soil downhill and away in the rivers to make the deltas - or perhaps fill the wet depressions around the land that were once lakes? About 58 years ago I went to look at a small old mill dam here in UK. About ten years ago I went again and the dam was amost half filled with sediment and grassed over. In another 20 years it will be pasture. It's how GOD intended us to have lovely productive land to feed us and TRex and all the other animals.

Zack, you mentioned the large rocks you have in your fields. May I suggest, there is a polymer expanding product on the market that I used many times in construction. By using a compressor and a 90 pound jack hammer drill a few holes down in the rocks about a foot apart and deep enough to get the rock well below the surface. Mix up the polymer and pour it in the holes. When you come back the next day the rock will have split and fractured enough to dig it out. Good luck. (Dexpan)

Our farm had its fair share of rocks. Every spring we would hand pick the rocks. There was a large rock my dad wanted to remove. He took the Oliver 66, a length of chain, and a hay hook. The hook was part of the old style hay hooks that ran along the top of the barn and dumped loose hay in different mows. He and the hired man, attached the chain to the front of the tractor, and the hay hook was driven in behind and under the rock. They started pulling, and at some point, the hook slipped off the rock, flew thru the air and imbedded itself in the hood of the tractor, about three feet from the seat. The 66 was his pride and joy, and he was pissed.

There is a copy of you and your wife on the island of Rügen in Germany and the crass thing is that they also have a giant farm with 920 hectares of fields and mainly work with John Deere agricultural machinery ... that was 7 years ago when I was there on vacation. As kids, there were way too many flat racks of stones picked & dumped by hand. Most fields just have smaller areas of stones. However, we have some large rocks that need to be picked/dug up via the tractor loader. AND there are several very large boulders which would cause an excavator to snort!
