    I’m sure there are plenty of people who will think my comment is untrue but I’ll say it anyway, Farmers might be the very last truly genuine people left on this rock that will go out of their way to help another and not ask what’s in it for me?? Before everyone gets crazy I have the absolute highest respect for the volunteer first responders n the military. Still I have to say that Zachs statistic of farmers only making up 1% puts fear in me because in my opinion once they are gone then the last true Americans will be too.

    My family was always dairy farmers in rural northeastern Pennsyltucky. My Uncle was an early innovator and the first in our area to own a round baler. It was a Saturday, early summer, 1978 or 1979, over 35 acres of top quality alfalfa/clover mix down and ready to bale, rain coming on Monday. He collapsed while doing the evening milking and had to have emergency surgery. Nobody knew how to run his round baler, hell, he barely knew, it was such a novelty at the time. I remember the entire community coming together with square balers, wagons, and family. There were 3 or 4 balers, 2 or 3 haulers, and 10-15 people in the hay mow trading off and putting up over 3,000 square bales in one Sunday afternoon, milking his cows and keeping things going til he recovered. I was just a young pup at the time, but, the feeling of community and giving back has never left.

    In May, 1975 my dad had to have an 8hr back surgery, I left school and quit my job to go home to do his farming so he would have a crop to sell. One day in late June 17 tractors with cultivators showed to help me get the cotton plowed. The local fuel supply showed up with a fuel truck to make sure everyone had fuel all day. Many people came in with food and drink. In the fall they came back to harvest the crop. I can not tell you how proud I was and still am of all those people. I have been trying to pay it forward ever sense. Hats off to the farming community of west texas. Zack, praise on for doing what you do. 👆👆

I've also personally been able to take part in a "Harvest Bee" to help a relative / friend... and it was some of the most gratifying & rewarding work I've ever performed!! God Bless.

    Zach - I have a similar story of my Dad having a health issue (twice) on our farm when my brother and I were too young to help, where the neighbors all stepped in to complete the field work to allow us to continue farming. It was very rewarding for me to be able to pay it forward, when I recently volunteered for Farm Rescue in South Dakota for a farmer who had experienced a severe ATV accident. I had a chance to meet one of your neighbors who is a great guy, a long-time volunteer with Farm Rescue. As a volunteer and sponsor of Farm Rescue, thank you for your efforts to create awareness and potential donors with your audience.

    In 1985 my dad was caught in a PTO when he was unloading silage out of a ratchet wagon. I was 5 at the time. Dad spent almost a 1 1/2 months in the hospital he was pretty bad. It was amazing the the out pouring of help that we got. Dad had a farrow hogs as well as a BUNCH of feeder pig. Also had harvest to finish. The neighbors helped as well as a lot of the community. I helps as much as a 5 year old could by cleaning crates scraping platforms for feeders. We were blessed. Then in 1994 dad got struck by lightning. By this time I was 14 I took on pretty much the operation or tried neighbors still helped. I and Dad still going running when any neighbors need anything we feel owe it to them for ALL that they have done to help us.

    Australian here, so I heard you ask what it's like to farm in a hot tropical climate. We'll, it's hot and wet. When it's not hot and wet, it's hot and dry. Interspersed with floods or cyclones. Sprinkled with occasional fires. So yeah you should totally come down and try it.

    Zack I absolutely loved the episodes on turkey farming and bison ranching (bison my next step). I know what family means and I just love hearing of the 4th, 5th,6th or more generational farms. My family actually came here to Manitoba in 1821 but unfortunately lost the family farm during the dirty thirties. Here in southern Manitoba a man took very sick last fall (2019, not covid) and usually it would take him a week to combine his fields. There were so many volunteers to help out the Mrs. (who was over her head with worry about the Mr. and the farm) they combined his fields in a day and still had time to put on the fall supper.     When it is cold here in Texas. Most mornings are 10 to 20 degrees. I put a 3' hose on one of the hydrolic remotes. I put it on detente with one end to case this helps warm the oil so the transmission works well with warm conditions during the startup.

    I don't care for a on-line concert or whatever. John Deere better look after their tractors and equipment. At the moment I have a 7320 with the IVT out. Guess what ? John Deere doesn't supply parts for fixing a IVT so I am looking at 33000$CAD replacement gearbox on a 10000 hr tractor, which made my 'old' 7320 into a 'throw-away' tractor instantly. Really? a 'throw-away' John deere tractor? I don't mind Fendt's , but those guys rebuilds their Vario's for 10K. O.K. then look for a replacement 7230R! And people from everywhere start shouting at you : "stay away from those things" They nothing but problems. Not all very big, but lots of them. So here I am: a regular farmer running mostly John Deere equipment, with a throw-away tractor and no decent replacement. So: I don't care a shit about a concert. -END-OFF-RANT-

    I volunteered for hay lift back won't the time you were born. We gathered hay and took it to farms down south where they had an impossible hay growing year. I enjoyed that summer. We moved more hay than I had ever seen.

    i'm from brisbane and we have a week of winter but it's not that cold....10 °C (50 °F) but we have just started summer and today's temp 33.2 °C(91.76 °F) with 70% humidity (which is hot and sweaty!!!!!!!!) so watching you in the snow is where i want to be right now
