to your chit chat about working to no till I would say that is a great plan. we picked up 80 acres that used to get yearly chiseling and had lots of notorious wet spots. we went straight to no till and after a season they were gone. we rarely have to fix washes and or ruts. only on extremely wet years do we have to fix wet marks. also surface compaction is no issue. our small 6620 leaves 2 inch impressions in the fall during harvest and by spring the frost lifts it back out. it takes some courage but it works. I know its a bit different from south east iowa to Minnesota but a small trial never hurt nobody. hope you read this. merica and john deere be safe

Fly on the rye the last half of August beginning Sept when the corn starts to die. hopefully you will have a layer of rye growing before corn harvest. you could use a highboy sprayer that will clear the top of the corn with an air boom.

We use a Salford vertical till with wavy colters on corn stalks and try and run 2-3” deep over corn stalks. It takes 2-3 passes but it does a great job.
